You can’t leave a Power Armor after you’ve found it and come back later to find a better version in its place.
Just so newer players know, that’s not how it works. There’s a cage on the left side of the room, and the set is in a power armor station behind it. Return once you’re done with the quest, and go to the large hall with the hanging robots. You can find it at the Fort Hagen Satellite Array, after you’ve finished the mission inside (Headhunters). Update: A new set of X-01 has been added with the Automatron DLC. We don’t know the exact level requirement, but make sure you save your game before you look for them, in case you’re still not strong enough to get them. We found them at level 40, but when we tried to get them with a level 30 character, T-60s appeared in their places.
